We are building for the future: a railway project in the heart of the Alps
Why are we building the Brenner Base Tunnel?
Today, a passenger train takes 80 minutes to travel from Fortezza to Innsbruck.
In the future, once the Brenner Base Tunnel is completed, the same trip will take only 25 minutes
With the Innsbruck railway bypass, which has been operational since 1994, the Brenner Base Tunnel will be the longest underground railway connection in the world
Passenger trains will be able to travel through the Brenner Base Tunnel at maximum speeds of up to 250 km/h
The new high-speed and high-capacity line along the Brenner axis between Munich and Verona is 435 km long. Its centerpiece is the Brenner Base Tunnel
The BBT tunnel system includes about 230 km of tunnels. 160 km have already been excavated.
